Are you a qualified Clinical or Counselling Psychologist based in Dublin? We have an exciting opportunity for you to join a non-profit mental health service in Dublin as a Senior Psychologist. The Role:
As the Senior Clinical or Counselling Psychologist, you will play a critical role in providing high quality psychological services to service users throughout the area. You will carry out regular assessments, develop and deliver therapeutic interventions, and contribute to the overall care planning of service users. You will also be responsible for managing and supervising psychology staff and trainees, and participating in training, research, and continuous professional development (CPD) activities.
Hours of work per week: 37 hours
Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out assessments of service users and develop appropriate psychological plans.
- Deliver individual and group therapeutic interventions using a range of evidence-based approaches.
- Work collaboratively with other professionals in order to facilitate the holistic care of service users.
- Maintain accurate records in accordance with professional guidelines.
- Manage, supervise, and guide psychology staff and trainees.
- Participate in relevant training, research, and CPD activities.
- Contribute to the overall organization and management of the service.
1. Professional and Clinical
- Carry out Psychological assessments as necessary, with patients/residents attending the inpatient/day and outpatient services.
- Develop and provide individual, family, and group therapeutic interventions/strategies to patients/residents as required.
- Work with and supervise Student/Trainee/Assistant Psychologists.
- Carry out research, especially in the area of service evaluation, regarding patients/residents attending the service.
- Identify psychological needs in the presenting patient population and develop proposals on how these needs could be met.
- Ensure that delivery of treatment and patient care is at the highest professional standards using an evidence-based, care planning approach.
- Plan discharge or transfer of the patient/resident between services as appropriate.
- Maintain records in accordance with service and professional standards, stay up-to-date with regard to Clinical Governance, and be familiar with conducting audits and analyzing data.
- Ensure that the Centre is at all times in compliance with statutory regulations and guidelines.
- Ensure that all psychology-led research projects are carried out in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Clinical Governance Committee and/or the Board of Directors.
- Assist in the implementation of practice developments throughout the center and monitor their effectiveness.
- To be familiar with and support the advancement and implementation of ICT developments within the center.
- Maintain strict confidentiality with regard to all matters concerning patients/residents, staff and business of the Centre.
2. Management and Leadership
- Advise on all aspects of legislation pertaining to psychological practice and education.
- To investigate, document, and take appropriate action regarding complaints in accordance with center policy if required.
- Familiar with managing personnel issues, and demonstrating leadership skills in supporting and advising staff if required.
- To assist with the formulation of policies, protocols, guidelines, and procedures which will ensure that the highest standard of patient-focused care is provided within available resources.
- To participate in the work of committees and task groups relating to both educational and clinical aspects of the service as required.
- Familiar with and competent in Data Protection, GDPR, and Freedom of Information.
3. Health and Safety
- Observe, report, and take appropriate action on any matter which may be detrimental to staff and/or service user care and may be inhibiting the efficient provision of care.
- Assist in observing and ensuring implementation and adherence to established policies and procedures e.g. health and safety, infection control, storage and use of controlled drugs, etc.
- To ensure completion of incident/near miss forms/clinical risk reporting, and that recommendations are fully implemented.
4. Educational and Development
- Develop a professional development plan and review it regularly with the Clinical Director.
- Ensure that the clinical areas in the center where students may be assigned for clinical placements are developed to provide the optimum learning\teaching environments.
- Initiate, facilitate, and take part in relevant research and promote research awareness.
- Keep up-to-date with clinical literature, recent clinical research, and new developments in clinical practice, management, and education.
- Participate in training programmes and attend relevant seminars and conferences relating to psychology or as required by the Clinical Director / professional body.
Qualifications & Experience:
- A recognized third-level degree or diploma (QQ1 level 8 equivalent) in psychology, which is accredited by the Psychological Society of Ireland.
- A recognized post-graduate professional qualification in Clinical or Counselling Psychology, or an equivalent qualification validated by the Department of Health.
- At least five years of satisfactory post-graduate experience in the area of professional psychology.
